Fibonacci Poems

October 14, 2010

What is Fibonacci poetry, besides a really cool sounding word? A description of it can be found here. It’s a really fun, short and sweet type of poetry that is a great warm-up to start writing or to just mess around with. You should try it!

It’s based on the really cool mathematical Fibonacci sequence. The amount of syllables in each line are determined by adding together the previous two lines. So it goes like this: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. Here are a few I did the other day.

Sleep
on.
Eyes blink
in the quiet
October evening.
Pumpkin-orange leaves cloak trees.

Write
 me
a poem.
Gift words sing
the untold stories.
Poems ferry across the water.

TV
night.
Castle.
The Event.
Mondays on the couch.
Senate debate interrupts Chuck.

Try one! They’re really fun, and even if you don’t write poetry, I think anyone can come up with one of these. If you come up with one, share it!

I don’t know. That seems awfully hard. Can’t I just write a book instead?
